Unawatuna Beach is a popular tourist destination in Sri Lanka which lies towards the south of Galle and is regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches in Asia. Located just south of Galle (about 125km from Colombo), this beautiful stretch of beach lies almost 4 km along the coast of southern Sri Lanka.
Once recognized as one of the best twelve beaches in the world, Unawatuna beach is a paradise for all those who want to listen to the silence of the sea and dive deep into the blue waters of the ocean.
The beach is large, sandy and palm-shaded with calm waters. Because of the reef protecting the beach, it is perfectly safe for bathing. The cool and placid waters of the Indian Ocean with high temperatures all the year round and naturally clear water provide excellent opportunities for water sports such as sailing, wind surfing, diving, water skiing and scuba diving. Many hotels located on the beach offer various facilities for these water sports.
You will find plenty of good seafood restaurants and an excellent range of other facilities as well. Sampling the local cuisine is one of the best parts of a Sri Lankan beach holiday. Many of the dishes prepared in the south regions are cooked in coconut milk and much of the cuisine is generally coconut based.
